Create a difference where it matters

Today I came across a written piece on one of the scenes from my all-time favorite Hindi movie titled 'Swades' - We the People. I won't emphasize on the whole movie much and to describe the movie in a sentence, it would go something like '' Mohan Bhargava, an NRI who returns to his homeland to take his childhood Nanny back to USA only to re-discover the true belonging of his roots.'' What I particularly want to emphasize is another scene in the movie that is also extremely close to my heart and leaves me in tears every time I stumble upon it. The instance is about Mohan leaving for USA after spending few weeks in India. Entire village gathers in front of his home to bid him farewell. People who closely interacted with him in these few weeks say few words before garlanding him. The leader of Gram Panchayat (Village Council) says '' We gradually forgot in these few weeks that you were a guest and visitors arrive just to leave one day. You will be remembered." His new friend Melaram, a low-key and presumably good cook who was dreaming to go to the USA to set up his own restaurant with Mohan, refuses to go with him suggesting '' When the creeper in your house crosses into your neighbor's compound, one's own house is ruined.''To which further he explained by adding that lighting your neighbor's house with a lamp on your threshold. These few words have proved to be the metaphor for the products of our country contributing to the advancement of foreign countries for their own personal propensity in the name of a ''better standard of living'' My Professor once said that the best of our country that we export is exported for free. And these are the best of the brains that we give away, when desperately where they are required is here.
Movies like Swades teach us the real meaning of ''Patriotism''. Patriotism for me is acknowledging the problems of your country and making an endeavor to solve it through support and collaboration rather than just merely bragging about what we already have in abundance since centuries and mocking other nations for the lack or absence of it. It is in understanding the societal issues, the origins of which are deeply rooted and embedded inside individuals and tackling it with Education- the real powerful weapon to solve all the problems associated with human species. To conclude I would like to just say that ''No country is perfect, we need to make it perfect'' a famous line from another gem of a movie that tries to tackle another similar subject i.e. Patriotism and Attitude of the Millennial, to explain which I would need a book not a blog.
